Middle School Program

Middle School World Language Program

Eighth grade students, along with a select group of seventh grade students, in the Cumberland Valley School District are able to study a full year of either French, German or Spanish. These courses follow the same curriculum as the high school Level 1 courses, are full-year courses, and pursue a thorough and rigorous study of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Particular attention is given to grammatical structures and the application of language in oral proficiency oriented activities.

In 6th grade, students experience the Introduction to Languages introductory course. In this program, students receive language instruction as part of the Creative Arts rotation. Although brief, students still experience the mechanics, culture and feel of each of the languages.
