You can find growth opportunities around every corner at Cumberland Valley High School. 🧗‍♂️ Check out this climbing wall, recently tackled by Eagles in Mr. Josh Mueller's Adventure Education class. Mr. Mueller explained, "Students were able to use a climbing wall as a visual to set a goal and identify their comfort zone. They then challenged themselves to climb just a bit outside of that comfort zone to develop both a sense of accomplishment and confidence for future experiences. 🏅 Our Unified Bocce program expanded to Eagle View and Mountain View middle schools this spring, where both schools formed teams. As a culminating event, our student-athletes came together to battle it out on the court in some friendly competition earlier this week. Teams are under the direction of coaches Jon Sauve, Taryn Heckard, and Brianna Doherty, in addition to several staff who support the program. 👏 Please help us celebrate our student-athletes and the wonderful Bocce program. 📸 courtesy Amanda Gervais. #CVproud

🦸‍♂️ HE’S OUR HEIMLICH HERO // Meet Liam, a third grader at Shaull Elementary School who recently sprung into action when he saw his friend choking on a piece of food from his lunch. Liam knew immediately what to do and without hesitation performed the Heimlich, ultimately dislodging the food and saving his friend. 🏅 For his heroic efforts, Dr. Blanchard presented Liam with an “Eagles Are Responsible” challenge coin. These coins are presented to special members out of school community who display our #PortraitOfAnEagle competencies in standout ways. Liam definitely meets that criteria (and he's only the second student to receive a coin!). 👏 Please help us celebrate Liam in the comments. And then head on over to ABC 27 to watch Liam, who shares the story in his own words. 🔗 https://www.abc27.com/local-news/carlisle-west-shore/third-grade-heimlich-hero-saves-cheese-choking-friend-at-pennsylvania-elementary-school/ #CVproud #EaglesAreResponsible

MISSION: RESCUE FRED // Students in Mrs. Melissa Hester's third-grade class at Middlesex Elementary School were challenged with saving their gummy worm friend, Fred, from drowning. They used their problem-solving and communication skills in this daring and brave hands-on STEM activity to figure out how to put a life preserver on Fred by only using paper clips. Great news: Fred is safe! Photos courtesy Ms. Abigail Rudy, a student teacher who is spending the semester with our Mountain Lion friends.

🥨 SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS (AND HONORING ONE OF OUR OWN) // On the last day of spring break, members of our ⚾ Eagles baseball team got together to send Coach Kilpatrick and members of his troop a (salty, sweet, and oh-so-crunchy) taste of home. With generous support from the Rice family and Utz, in addition to donations from our baseball, softball, and football families (Coach Kil is also an assistant football coach), players gathered yesterday to package the snacks that will be sent to First Lieutenant Collin Kilpatrick and his Pennsylvania National Guard Alpha Troop 2-104 Cavalry out of Hazelton, Pa, who are currently stationed overseas. It'll be a much-welcomed delivery as Coach Kil says some of the foods he and his troops miss most are Pennsylvania's snacks. 👏 Please help us give a shoutout to Coach Kil and his troop for their service to our country and to our teams for this beautiful community service project! Also, be sure to tune into ABC 27 News at 5:30 and 6 p.m. today (April 2, 2024) as they spotlight our Eagles and their efforts to support Coach Kil and troops. Special thanks also to Mumma's Appliances for loaning the team the box truck in support of their cause. #CVproud #PortraitOfAnEagle #EaglesAreResponsible #EaglesAreEmpathetic

Congratulations to Andrew Thumma, Database Administrator for Cumberland Valley School District, who was recently one of six school employees from across the country to receive a Leader in Excellence Award from Skyward (our Student Information System). Mr. Thumma, a member of our Technology Department, was nominated for this award by both a Skyward employee and a colleague in another district. As part of the nomination, it was said that "Andrew's knowledge of the database and report manager is extraordinary" and "his willingness to share his expertise with others is commendable."

We recently welcomed Associated Press writer Marc Levy to CV, where he interviewed Cumberland Valley High School senior Jody Mikhail as part of a national story on the rise of girls' wrestling in schools across the country. Read more about Jody (who also happens to be our 2023 Homecoming Queen) and our girls' wrestling program, and view more photos, in Mr. Levy's article available here: https://tinyurl.com/mu35ntkc. Dreams DO come true, and five of our Cumberland Valley High School seniors were on hand to make the moment even more magical. Seniors Julianne Canete, Aidan Metz, Nick Perry, Zach Runkle, and Carissa Williams, who are part of our Cumberland Valley High School Musical Productions, were honored to bring Disney theater magic to a cherished moment for a young princess when she learned that her wish to visit Walt Disney World had been granted. Dressed as Disney princes and princesses, our students were honored to join Capital Blue Cross and Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware and Susquehanna Valley in helping to make this life-changing wish become a reality. These are moments that will never be forgotten.
