A letter from the superintendent (safety)

Dear Cumberland Valley Community:

Our hearts go out to the students, staff, families, and greater Santa Fe High School, Texas, community at large. Hold your families close to you today and always.

I would like to take a moment to assure you that, as always, we continue to place the safety of our students and staff as our greatest priority. As previously shared, the Board of School Directors recently contracted with a consultant who specializes in school safety to review our emergency plans, to complete a risk and vulnerability assessment, and to deliver additional staff trainings, as necessary, that are individual to each building based upon findings. We will work over the summer with administration and local law enforcement to make any necessary enhancements, as recommended by the consultant, to our already well-recognized and thorough plan.

Additionally, we remind you that we have in place a comprehensive set of policies that address the safety, health, and welfare of our school community. We are currently reviewing these policies and, as necessary, are recommending changes to further strengthen and improve the documents.

Safety of our school community relies on partnerships between the school, local law enforcement, students, parents/guardians, and the community at large. I strongly encourage families to visit the National Association of School Psychologists website, www.nasponline.org, or the American Psychological Association website, www.apa.org. Both NASP and APA offer a host of resources for both families and school personnel, including information on mental and behavioral health and information regarding how to address societal concerns.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's school counselor or principal should you have any concerns.

Sincerely,

Dr. Frederick Withum III
Superintendent of Schools
