Google for Education

As part of Cumberland Valley School District’s ongoing strategic plan, we strive to integrate technology into our classrooms as an additional teaching and learning tool. To enhance these efforts, we will continue to use Google Accounts for Education with our staff and students.

Through Google Accounts for Education, students will have access to a suite of web-based programs that provide email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, calendaring, research, and collaboration tools. These accounts will allow for collaborative study anytime, anywhere with peers and teachers.

As always, safety and security of our students and their accounts are of paramount priority. Therefore, these Google accounts will reside on a CV Schools Internet domain, which is owned by the District and is intended for educational use only. Students will only be able to collaborate and communicate with other students and staff whose accounts are within this domain. Additionally, these accounts comply with legal requirements for safety and security, such as the Child Internet Protection Act and Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.

During the first few weeks of school, students will review expectations and procedures for accessing their Google accounts. In elementary school, computer teachers will also provide students with their individual login information to access their accounts. Secondary students who did not have accounts the previous year will receive information from their homeroom teachers. In addition, we will continue to educate students on digital citizenship.
