The International Baccalaureate Authorization Team, consisting of Carol Kennedy-Dickens and Patricia Sanford, met with administration, teachers, board member, parents and students on October 21st and 22nd.
The two-day process began with Administrator and IB Coordinator interviews, followed by a series of group interviews with teachers. Teachers were well prepared to discuss their updated course outlines and respond to feedback. A round of applause goes to David Emerick, Susan Gibson, Suzy Grim, Rebecca Sior, Abbey Neal, Dustin Noll, Paul Beardmore, Todd Harral, Don Carr, Roy Stanley, Anthony Thoman, Randy Cassell, Ashlee King, Robert Newara, Mike Hibbs, Carol Anderson and Paul Nagle. The effort that the teachers have put into International Baccalaureate preparation is the key to the success of our program. They have worked tirelessly and put in long hours to prepare their course outlines and get ready for their interviews. Kara Boehne is recognized as our IB Librarian; but in addition, we applaud her for graciously hosting the event in the IMC. On day two, approximately 20 parents were interviewed; Dr. Harner met with parents afterwards to express support for the IB Programme. Approximately 25 students attended the student interview later in the day.
The Authorization Team was in awe of Cumberland Valley’s amenities on the school tour and questioned whether our students realized how fortunate they are to have such outstanding accommodations. They were extremely impressed with our facility.
At the conclusion of the two-day visit, Rob Martin, IB Administrator and Kathy Heisler, IB Coordinator designate were present for the Exit Interview. The Authorization Team is not permitted to give Cumberland Valley any direct feedback; we will receive official word of authorization through a letter of notification by the spring of 2011.
