Steve Kirkpatrick is the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Assessment and Professional Development in Cumberland Valley School District.
Mr. Kirkpatrick has lived in Central Pennsylvania his whole life. Having met his wife, Rebecca, here and subsequently establishing a family of four children (3 boys and then a girl), he earned his Bachelors of Science in Education in 1992 from Shippensburg University and soon after began as an English teacher at Cumberland Valley High School. While teaching, he also coached varsity football, varsity softball, and middle school basketball.
After earning his Masters in Education Administration, also from Shippensburg, he became an assistant principal working at each grade level of the high school over six years. Mr. Kirkpatrick then began as Upper House Principal in 2005, with a year's hiatus in 2007-08 while he worked as an intern in the district office. He returned to the high school for a two-year tenure as the high school principal and then started his current role with the district on July 1, 2011.
In his assistant superintendent's role, Mr. Kirkpatrick is responsible for maintaining and enhancing academic excellence through planning, organizing, coordinating, evaluating and directing all aspects of district instruction, assessment and professional development. He finds it extremely rewarding to work with CVSD students, staff and administration on these critical components of the educational program. He believes his ultimate mission is to provide our students with the support and opportunities they need in order to be successful.
Mr. Kirkpatrick has also earned his Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility and is currently in the midst of his doctoral studies through Widener University.
